Walls, Floors and Patterns in Cinema

An element that I find exciting and always look out for when watching films (especially when they are directed by Lynch) are amazing, trippy and crazy patterns. I think that some of the most famous scenes in cinema history have been characterized by patterns, so I decided to post some of the most distinguished and loved ones.

Some of the most legendary shots in my opinion that use patterns are: The Lodge from Twin Peaks, the Lady in the Radiator's stage in Eraserhead and The Overlook Hotel's carpets in Kubrick's The Shining. It's worth noting that both Lynch and Kubrick have been an influence to one another, specifically, Kubrick's vision for The Shining was heavily influenced by Eraserhead.

Some more beautiful patterns can be seen in the films of Wong Kar Wai, especially in 2046 and in The Mood for Love. Pedro Almodovar's scenes often consist of geometrical 60's wallpapers, and one of the sweetest use of patterns is in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amelie.

Jennybird Alcantara's art is full of narratives and explorations of opposites. It is a great example of observing how beauty and cruelty can be merged together and prove that nothing would be the same in the absence of either. Her biggest inspirational moments agree so much with mine too; the state of semi-consciousness! It is such a great moment, and happens to me often before I sleep, when I'm sunbathing, or while I travel...

I really love the first illustration "Daughter of Icarus" ..it brings to my mind the moments when my sister and I are taken apart by an airplane because we live in different countries :(

It's beauty that captures your attention; personality which captures your heart.

I saw the work of Elsa Mora a long time ago on Flickr, her 'Blossom Buddies' ...and I thought, what a beautiful mind she has!

Then today I realised that this thought is much more true than I ever imagined! After all that time, I came across her blogs and saw more of her work and read a lot about her life and perceptions. It's amazing to see how truly pure, lovely and talented she is, you can see it in everything she creates; paper sculptures, drawings, jewllery and most important the beautiful, poetic way she writes and thinks.

I was very moved by the quotes she refers to and the concepts that surround every project that she has made. The 'Inner Thread' project espcecially touched my heart. The sculpture is breath taking, but the impulse that inspired her to create this piece is even more inspiring. It's wonderful to see the beautiful ways that some people can find to interpret life and the events that are happening to them whether they are good, or bad. I wish everybody could express themselves in this way; so that anger, sadeness, stress and all those emotions that eat away inside us could be transformed into something beautiful.

Sisifus in his new home!

This is Sisifus the Newest toy i made. He was born in Liverpool and traveled a couple of days later to sunny Greece in his new home and new owner! He has been sending me pictures of his life, since he is my first child that lives away from me. I think has been very well looked after and educated.

He is very sensitive and he likes hugging all his friends at once with his long hands. From the very beginning of his life he found out he loves lemons and peanuts. Though I'm a bit concerned about him and his big purple fur in that hot weather...he will definately need a swim soon and a lot of ice creams to feel better...have fun in Greece Sisifus!

Cybele + Attis

This is Attis new friend, so he is not alone anymore...Her name is Cybele and she is adorable!

Attis
A Shy pink monster that lives in the wild woods. He climbs mountains, sleeping in caves and tall trees. He likes to play tough, but he is a scaredy-cat at heart! He enjoys being alone, but he still meets his friends often!

Cybele
A fluffy hungry, girl that only eats butterflies - that's why her fur is so bright and colourful! She admires Attis - spying on him in the woods when he thinks he is alone! When they meet they Brush each others hair with their feet since they've got no hands...
